Draft Concept Paper “European Partnership for Personalised Medicine – EP PerMed”
ICPerMed and ERA PerMed published a jointly developed draft concept paper for the candidate European Partnership for Personalised Medicine – EP PerMed.
With this document, ICPerMed and ERA PerMed underline the need for establishing a European Partnership for Personalised Medicine and propose their vision for EP PerMed, its objectives, activities and expected impacts. It also outlines the composition of the partnership consortium and its interaction with the Personalised Medicine ecosystem, on European and international level.
The EP PerMed draft concept paper was prepared between June-August 2020 by the ICPerMed and ERA PerMed “Preparatory Group”, comprising of four representatives of each initiative. The group received valuable input of the European Commission. The draft concept paper was presented and discussed during a Joint Sustainability Workshop of ERA PerMed and ICPerMed beginning of September. It is a living document and will be further developed and updated after input of other stakeholders. Its current version was provided to the European Commission after receiving the approval by the over 50 organisations of more than 30 countries (24 European countries) involved in both initiatives in October 2020.
This draft concept paper was jointly developed and approved by the ICPerMed and ERA PerMed consortia as input and supporting document for the Member States consultation on the candidate European Partnership in Personalised Medicine, EP PerMed, organised by the EC. The document received valuable EC input but does not represent an official document developed and approved by the EC. The document is not the official partnership proposal.
Over the last years, already a lot has been achieved in the field of personalised medicine by a large number of international, pan-European, national as well as regional activities and initiatives. But to further develop and foster promising personalised medicine approaches, there is a need of an even closer collaboration and effort which could be achieved by a European Partnership for Personalised Medicine in Horizon Europe.
With its next research and innovation framework programme Horizon Europe, the European Union will support European Partnerships with EU countries, the private sector, foundations and other stakeholders.
